Nice
Having arrived in the wee morning we had slept till around 2pm so we decided to use the rest of the day to do laundry. That night our hostel had a free beer and pasta night so we chilled out in the common room and chatted to some fellow travellers.
The next day, we did a small walk around town and gazed out at the beach. It was strange to see water again, it had been so long since we’d seen a real beach… except for the one in Scotland on Christmas day – but that was covered in snow. That night we hung out in the common room again and had a few drinks with some American girls we met. Somehow they talked us into going out and checking out old town…
After a couple of drinks at a pub, Sara and I decided it best we head home. However, Sara couldn’t make it all the way home as she needed to pee so we began the search… we started walking down some stairs into a closed train station and… somehow… yet again… I managed to trip on the last step and sprained my ankle… the opposite one to the one I sprained in LA…
So we hobbled home, and as the kitchen was locked, decided to ice it in the morning…
I awoke to a very painful, throbbing, swollen ankle I could barely walk on but after icing it for a while it started to settle down. Luckily, I still have my collection of bandages from my first sprain, and my broken fingers so I was able to strap it up for support. It was too sore to really go far though so we spent the day reading books in the common room and chatting to the staff and fellow travellers.
We spent the next day on the hop-on hop-off bus tour and finally got to see Nice. It is a gorgeous little town with a beautiful marina and beach.
We decided to book one more night so that we could walk around the park the following day and to give my ankle an extra day to heal before having to lug our bags on another long train journey… unfortunately it rained the following day and it was a Sunday so the place was a ghost town. We went for a small walk in the rain, organised our train timetable for the following day and once again hung out at our comfy hostel with the adorable Sophia who works there and made us yummy pancakes coz she was bored. Overall we thought Nice was very nice - as Sara liked to say continuously while we were there...
Next stop… BARCELONA!
